Sophisticated and elegant, they pair well with game meats, roast lamb, hearty beef stews, veal, venison and poultry. A match made in heaven with these dishes. Bon appétit!Bordeaux is the largest wine producing region in France. It consists of two major areas the Left and the Right Bank. Both lie in the heart of the Gironde estuary and are further divided by its tributaries, the Garonne and the Dordogne rivers. Bordeaux produces 700 million bottles of wine in an average year! While some of the most expensive wines in the world come from Bordeaux, most are every day, affordable table wines.

Bordeaux has been a wine producing region for a very long time: The first vines were planted in the region during the mid-1st century by the Romans. The British call red Bordeaux blends “claret.”

“Violet red colour, fruity nose, tobacco, dust, cinnamon. Quite powerful in mouth, raspberry with medium tannins, low on acidity. Here is hope for mature development.”

“Good Bordeaux. 100% Merlot. Dark fruits, some mineral and leather notes. Good now, better still to come.”
James

“For a supermarket own brand such as this Selected by Tesco range of wine. I was pleasantly surprised by how superior tasting this bold French wine was for its price range. The Tesco Bordeaux Superior Red wine has a strong flavour mixed with oak, spice and plum. I found the intense flavour complimented cheese platters especially the Tesco’s own Cheese platter of Brie, Danish Blue, Edan and Cheddar. The wine also tasted great with steak dishes too. Overall a firm favourite for me.”

“I don’t really want to review this wine as it’s so good – especially when on offer. The whole family loves it. I stopped drinking wine and coffee 3 years ago due to migraines, but i’ll have a small glass of this. Smooth nice flavour and easy to quaff quickly. We have bought a lot of bottles since discovering it at Christmas.”

Casillero del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon

A smooth, full-bodied red Chilean wine from Asda with cassis and black cherry flavours, complemented by hints of dark fruits, blackberries, coffee and dark chocolate. Food Pairing: A great choice to match with red meats such as beef with black pepper sauce, herby dishes or mature cheeses.

More than 100 years ago, Don Melchor de Concha y Toro reserved for himself an exclusive batch of his best wines. To keep strangers away, he spread the rumours that the Devil lived in that place. He called the wine: Casillero Del Diablo, meaning The Devil’s Cellar. A great choice to match with red meats such as steak, herby dishes or mature cheeses.

“An absolutely superb wine. It compliments steak, fish and magic with pasta dishes. In other words, it goes with any food. Without food, it is a very smooth wine just to sip.”

“A very drinkable example of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon from a well respected maker. Smooth, full of the fruit flavours associated with the grape and a hint of spice and chocolate on the palate.”

“Gorgeous red wine from Chile – this is my husband’s all time favourite. Very full bodied, glorious deep colour and scent. Goes so well with lasagne etc. Disappointed that it’s no longer available in the miniature range as sometimes one glass is sufficient – helps reduce the alcohol consumption as well.”

House Pinot Noir

This wine of Romania Pinot Noir from Sainsbury’s has been specially selected by our winemakers. For a delicious pinot noir that doesn’t break the bank! This Pinot Noir is super smooth and lusciously fruity. It is packed full of juicy cherry and raspberry flavours. Great served with mushroom dishes.

Pinot Noir is a thin-skinned grape variety, which produces red wines, generally light in colour, flavour, tannin and acidity. Typically flavours include elegant raspberry and juicy red and black cherry fruit. As the wines age they often develop savoury meaty notes.

“I’ve been crazy for good PN & Burgundy… for 37+ years… not a snob but by now I kind of know how to tell a nice one when I find it. And this one is very, very nice…. and being so inexpensive bumps it up to 5 stars for me. I find it has about a 2x to 4x enjoyment factor over most any wine twice as expensive and doesn’t meet its equal until the much more gets spent… maybe 4x as much. For taste alone, judging blind, I’d give it a 90-92 on the 100pt scale. If cost is a factor then a 95+ Goes wonderfully with just about any food type, it’s delicious with the Chavroux La Buche Goats Cheese… A lighter style which holds up well even with a very wide range of foods! Still very good on day 2, and holding up well on day 3… so this may hold up well for 2 more years even though it is not very tannic. No, it’s not as aromatic or complex as a fine Vosne Romanee. But it IS a very pretty wine which makes for an everyday wine. Love it with roasted turkey or duck and even more with salmon. I won’t get too technical, but will note it has a very nice medium length finish with a wonderful cherry aftertaste which lingers… just lovely. Probably best tasted at 16 to 18 degrees. In sum: I’d still say it’s really good wine if it were 3x or 4x the money. A great everyday drinker for fans of good PN. Gotta go, my mouth is watering. Cheers!”

“This is a very classical Pinot Noir. It is one of the hardest grapes to grow well and it is plain to see that these Macedionians did not begin yesterday. It is quite light, but Pinot Noirs ARE light. It exhibits classical flavours. It is probably a blend of different vintages, but I don’t see that as being a problem, when the results are this good. For anyone who knows how hard it is to find a decent Pinot at an affordable price, I would urge them to try this.”
Taffy

“Stumbled on this by chance. Was a little apprehensive about buying it as it was half of the cost of what we usually pay for Pinot Noir. Was not disappointed at all. Very drinkable, light, no headaches and unfortunately so more-ish we went back to buy more. Very nice wine at an affordable price. Highly recommended.”
